Abode Gallery Events Coincide with Stockholm Art Fair

Each year thousands flock to our little village on the shores of Lake Pepin for the Stockholm Art Fair. This year's show, taking place this Saturday, July 20, 2013. will mark the event's 40th anniversary, and as usual, we've got some special things planned for the art-lovers visiting Stockholm this weekend. The video above will offer a sneak peek of what's in store.

Stop by Abode Gallery this weekend and you'll notice several new works on display, some by new artists and others from artists our regular visitors will surely recognize.

In addition, some artists will be making personal appearances at Abode Gallery on the day of the Stockholm Art Fair, to greet visitors and discuss their work. One of those artists is Jeff Boutin. Even if you don't recognize Jeff's name, you'll most likely recognize his work; vibrant, colorful and playful paintings, which are among the Gallery's best sellers.

Also, "The Great River Road" exhibition continues, featuring the work of Raelee Edgar. Coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the Great River Road, art-lovers, classic car buffs and Great River Road enthusiasts will enjoy her work, which celebrates the travel and nostalgia of the open road! The show only runs through July 31, so this weekend will be one of the last for catching this great exhibition.

Finally, the Home & Lifestyle store is fully stocked with new handcrafted items; unique home accessories of the highest quality are ready to grace and beautify your home.

Keep your eye to our Facebook page (and give us a "like" if you haven't already) for any late-breaking news, announcements, appearances and more! We look forward to seeing you for one of the biggest art events of the year on the west coast of Wisconsin.

The Great River Road Exhibition
Featuring the original works of Raelee Edgar
June 13 - July 31, 2013

OPENING RECEPTION
Saturday, June 15, 2013
4:30pm - 6:30pm

The State of Wisconsin proclaimed 2013 as the 75th anniversary of the Wisconsin Great River Road. Highway 35, Wisconsin’s Great River Road, runs down Wisconsin's west coast winding through artistic communities and charming historic villages. The journey is one of the greatest undiscovered drives in the Midwest.

The road with its curves and hills has been preserved to embrace the area’s scenic and historical significance.  Drivers on the Great River Road find a sense of freedom and a unique connection to the wild landscape. Along the road, eagles soar in and out of the trees, and limestone bluffs tower above the road like European castles. The Mighty Mississippi River stretches and winds with you like a friend on your drive, leaving you in awe of its necessity and natural beauty.  New journeyer’s are encouraged and invited to discover the magic.

Abode Gallery will highlight the works of artist Raelee Edgar in an exhibition entitled "The Great River Road".  Raelee is happily painting car memories, in Minnesota where she lives with her husband and two children. In recent years, her work has been exhibited in a number of juried shows and she's completed several commissions. Her artwork is held in both private and corporate collections.  When speaking about her work she states, “Time spent with loved ones and friends can be summoned by a car make or model. I hope my work lets people savor those memories.”

Ronalee’s work will be on view from June 15th- July 31st.  The opening for the Great River Road Exhibition will be June 15th from 4:30pm- 6:30pm. See you at the Opening!

Abode Gallery Introduces the Artistry of Howard A. Schroeder

We're pleased to welcome the work of Howard S. Schroeder to our gallery.

The third of six children born to an artistic family, Howard was born and raised in Lewes, DE. His father, Howard S. Schroeder, was a renowned painter in the Middle Atlantic States.

Howard is married, with two children and one grandchild, all residing in MN. Prior to moving to Minnesota, he lived 32 years in Chapel Hill, NC.

Howard started sculpting in 1972 while stationed in Winter Harbor, ME, while serving in the Navy.  Upon discharge from the Navy, Howard settled in North Carolina and spent his wage earning years as a tennis pro and father.

After a two year hiatus of moving and settling in to a home in Northfield, MN, he is excited to be resuming the art he loves and is thrilled to be part of our family of artists.

These pieces are exquisite, and possess a sensual quality.

The video above showcases more of Howard's work, which is available at Abode Gallery, Stockholm, WI.

New to Abode Gallery: Honeycombed Calcite Wine Racks (and Granite Candles are back)

Look at the honeycombed appearance of this stone. Stone artist, Richard Erickson, just dropped off these amazing new pieces to the Abode Gallery.

Last year his granite candles were a huge hit.  He just left a couple of candles and several granite wine racks. See more of these gorgeous pieces in the video below.

These wine racks are made from honeycombed calcite, a rare stone that is only found in Utah.  The stone has a honeycombed appearance and distinctive character.  Richard maintains the natural form and polishes his pieces beautifully.

The candles that we had in last year were gone quickly.  I encourage you to stop by this weekend and see these wine racks in person. You’ll be glad you did. And please pass the word along to your friends.

New Zen wall vases just arrived…

We just received new Zen wall vases from Water’s Edge Studios.  Take a look at them.  The artist is Terry Andrews from Florida.  I met him at the American Craft Show in Orlando a few years back.

Terry uses glass and copper to create functioning vases.  He hand blows the glass to fuse it to the copper.  His pieces are warm and inviting with incredible colors.

Another new vase will be on the floor this weekend.  It’s much larger than any others that we have had.  Stop by this weekend and see these Zen wall vases in person.  You’ll be glad you did.
